Calculator
Displacement & Density Calculator
For Activity #005 after you predict, measure, calculate by hand, and test.
How is this calculated?
Final water level - initial water level = displaced water = object volume. In this activity, 1 mL = 1 cm³.
If mass is entered, density = mass ÷ volume.
Float or sink note
Water has a density of about 1 g/cm³. Objects with density below 1 g/cm³ often float, and objects above 1 g/cm³ often sink. Real tests can be affected by trapped air, shape, absorbent materials, and partial submersion.
Learning reminder
Use this calculator after the hands-on work. Prediction, careful measurement, hand calculation, and testing are the main activity.
